Broadening media horizons

The more eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that on our FeaturesExec Media Database we now use the term ‘media outlets’ across the site instead of ‘publications’.
Right from the beginning (that’s 1997, by the way) we’ve been including a lot more than just print publications in FeaturesExec, and in recent months there has been a big increase in broadcast and online outlets (including selected blogs). So we thought it was time the language we used reflected the breadth of the database.
We’ve also been expanding the content in our FeaturesExec Media Bulletin section, which features media news and interviews with editors and freelance journalists. Subscribers to both the FeaturesExec Media Database and the Response Source Journalist Enquiries System benefit from access to the Media Bulletin, including twice-weekly email alerts.
If there are any outlets or journalists you’d like to know more about let us know by emailing news@dwpub.com and we’ll try to interview them for a ‘FeaturesExec Focus’.

CNET awards just around the corner

I was on the judging panel again for this year’s CNET Networks UK Business Technology Awards programme and am looking forward to the awards dinner coming up on 23 September 2008.
Among the many awards that will be presented on the night at the Hilton on London’s Park Lane is the ‘Technology PR Campaign of the Year’ for which Brands2Life, Johnson King, Octane PR, OnRelay and Weber Shandwick have been shortlisted (check out the full press release).

Local daily newspapers - the first casualty?

It was interesting to come back from my summer holiday to hear Roy Greenslade on Radio Four's Today Programme predicting that in 20 years time all the local daily paid-for newspapers will have dissapeared, in part thanks to readers choosing to get their local news online.
20 years? I think it will take a lot less than that.
